News Editing Training at SMKN 3 Kuningan

Abstract

News editing training at SMKN 3 Kuningan was held to improve students' journalistic literacy skills, particularly in understanding the structure, rules, and principles of news text editing. This activity was motivated by the need for vocational students to have written communication skills that are relevant to the digital age, especially in the context of school media and online publications. The training was conducted through a practice-based workshop approach that combined theoretical presentations, news text analysis exercises, editing simulations, and text reproduction. The results of the activity showed a significant improvement in students' skills in identifying incorrect news structures, correcting spelling and grammar, rearranging paragraphs to be more effective, and consistently applying the 5W+1H principle. This training also increased students' sensitivity to journalistic language that is straightforward, concise, current, and accurate, as formulated by Dewabrata (2004) and Muslimin (2019). These findings emphasize the importance of news editing programs in vocational high schools to build a literate generation capable of contributing to a healthy, critical, and responsible information culture.
