Acting Workshop for High School Students throughout Kuningan Regency

Abstract

Social dynamics and digitalization have triggered various psychosocial challenges for adolescents in Kuningan Regency, ranging from social anxiety to a decline in the quality of interpersonal communication. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of acting workshops as a community-based arts education model in developing the holistic competencies of senior high school students. Utilizing a community service method with an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, the program focuses on empowering individual and school assets through a series of technical and creative exercises. The results indicate that amateur acting training not only enhances performative skills but also serves as a social laboratory to strengthen 21st-century skills (4C: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication). Through techniques such as forum theatre, students are able to develop resilience, empathy, and social problem-solving abilities. The study concludes that acting workshops are a strategic pedagogical intervention to strengthen student character, interpersonal intelligence, and emotional health. It is recommended that schools integrate theater into the character education curriculum sustainably, supported by permanent structures from the local government.
