Enhancing Children's Interest and Literacy Skills in Ciherang Village Through Educational Games

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the reading interest and literacy skills of elementary school children in Ciherang Village through enjoyable and participatory educational approaches. The implementation method consisted of three main stages: introducing literacy through the “Literacy Treasure Hunt Cards” game, enhancing reading comprehension and vocabulary through a quiz competition, and strengthening reading motivation through a shared reading session titled “By Reading I Can”. All activities were designed to actively involve students and encourage the participation of teachers and parents in supporting the learning process. The results showed increased enthusiasm, improved sentence construction skills, and better understanding of new vocabulary among children. The program also successfully fostered collaboration among schools, parents, and village officials in creating a supportive literacy environment. The conclusion indicates that game-based and interactive approaches can serve as effective strategies to enhance children's literacy in rural areas.
